CBG stands for cannabigerol and it is a Phyto-cannabinoid. This means that unlike the endocannabinoids that the human body produces, these cannabinoids come from the cannabis plant.
Cannabigerol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. It or its acid form CBGA (A stands for acid) is, a “precursor” cannabinoid and the first cannabinoid acid contained in the plant. That is why they are sometimes referred to as “plant stem cells”.
It is so important because only Cannabigerol can produce the precursor of THC-THCA, as well as the precursor of CBD-CBDA.
The acidic cannabinoids split into the non-acidic forms when they dry. This is how the well-known cannabinoids THC or CBD are created. This process is also known as decarboxylation. This process creates many more cannabinoids, which we do not find much relevant in everyday life, although more than 100 are now known. All of this is due to CBG.
In recent years, however, interest in CBG has also grown and that is why some breeders are now experimenting with different strains that contain more of this cannabinoid. Others, on the other hand, are more likely to harvest their plants in order to achieve a higher proportion of CBG. How does CBG Work?
There are now various studies on the effects of cannabigerol, which we would like to discuss below.
Researchers from the University of Reading in the UK were able to demonstrate in two different animal studies on rats in 2016 and 2017 that CBG is able to increase appetite. This is particularly interesting for people who have problems getting enough food through chemotherapy, for example.
Another research suggests that CBG has a neuroprotective effect.
A 2014 study by the University of Naples showed that CBG has the ability to inhibit the growth of some types of tumors.
Also, in 2014, the specialist magazine “PLoS One” published the results of an investigation. It found that products that contain CBG can suppress the body’s immune response.
Moreover, it is assumed that CBG can inhibit GABA neurotransmission in the brain and has an impact on pain sensation and inflammation. This was also reflected in another study from 2013. The researchers at the Italian University examined the effects of CBGs on inflammatory bowel diseases. As a result, the researchers found that the cannabinoid has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
